semiconductor investment

March 4, 2025 – Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has announced plans to increase its U.S. investment by an additional $100 billion, bringing its total investment in the country to $165 billion. This funding will support the construction of three new semiconductor fabs, two advanced packaging facilities, and a major R&D center in the United States.

The advanced packaging sector is witnessing unprecedented growth, with major semiconductor companies making substantial investments to expand capacity and enhance technologies. ASE Group (Advanced Semiconductor Engineering) is set to establish a new fan-out panel-level packaging (FOPLP) production line in Kaohsiung, while TSMC is accelerating its investment in both advanced process nodes and advanced packaging solutions.

Samsung Electronics has officially secured a $4.745 billion subsidy from the U.S. government under the CHIPS and Science Act. This figure, recently confirmed by the U.S. Department of Commerce, is approximately 26% lower than the $6.4 billion initially outlined in the Preliminary Memorandum of Terms (PMT) signed in April 2023.

China’s National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund (commonly known as the National IC Fund) continues its strategic investment spree, marking its fourth EDA (Electronic Design Automation) funding of the year by acquiring a stake in Hangxin Technology. Earlier this year, the fund also invested in Jiu Tongfang, Shenzhen Hongxin Microelectronics, and Quanxin Intelligent Manufacturing. With this latest move, China’s EDA sector is poised for accelerated domestic development, addressing critical gaps in the industry.

Vishay Intertechnology, a leading manufacturer of discrete semiconductors and passive components, has announced a major investment of £51 million ($69 million) in the Newport Wafer Fab (NWF), located in South Wales. This investment, which will significantly enhance the facility's production capabilities, is part of Vishay’s strategic plan to expand its presence in the semiconductor market, particularly in power devices and silicon carbide (SiC) technologies.
